ISSC Vancouver City Leagues
Following on from the success of our Ladies Football City League in 2012, we are proud to be expanding our City League format to both Mens & Ladies Football in 2013.
Our Ladies League began in late May and has been running every Thursday night from 6.30pm in Brockton Oval, Stanley Park.
They have 2 more weeks of games before they break & turn their focus towards the Western Canadian Championship. If you have Thursday evening free, be sure to get to Brockton and you will be guaranteed a couple of fiercely contested games.
Our Mens League kicked off on Saturday June 15th. The 4 team competition will run over the summer, with the league final scheduled for early August. Keep an eye on the ISSC Facebook page for a schedule of games. Round 2 is down to be played on July 5th, in Klahaine Park, North Vancouver. You can get a recap of Saturdays games by reading the below Match Reports, which have been colorfully depicted by Tadhg Egan.

Friday March 15th – Final Night of the ISSC Sevens Tournament
It is the last night of games in our annual sevens tournament with the first game set to get under way at 7 pm in Capilano Rugby Club, North Vancouver. Afterwards, there will be drinks, food, music and no doubt bit of craic to be had in the Capilano Clubhouse to celebrate another successful sevens tournament and to kick off St. Patrick’s weekend. It will be a good opportunity to get to know some of the newcomers and to have a bit of a laugh after a competitive six weeks of games. All club members are welcome, and we encourage you to invite friends and family to come along and enjoy the night.
Saturday March 16th – ISSC -v- The Aussies Annual St.Patricks Weekend Game
We will be playing our traditional Gaelic Football Game -v- the Aussies. The game will take place in Andy Livingstone Park, with a throw-in time of 1.30 pm. Anyone interested in playing should arrive at 1.00 pm and we would encourage members to come out and support the game.
Sunday March 17th – Vancouver St. Patrick’s Day Parade
As has been the tradition for several years now, the club will march in the Vancouver St. Patrick’s Day parade behind the ISSC banner. This year we will be again flying the Irish flag as the most authentic Irish entrant in the parade. The parade will start from Howe and Davie and move north on Howe turning right on West Georgia and finishing up at West Georgia and Granville. We have been asked by the organizers to assemble in our position (#41A) which will be near the corner of Howe & Drake between 9:45 and 10:15 am.
We would advise people where possible to take public transport to the parade as a number of streets in the city center will be closed off and parking may be difficult to come by. Please can participants wear their GAA colors whether they be the ISSC, club or county from back home. Alternatively, you can wear the ISSC club colors of green white and gold. We especially encourage those with children to bring them along as this is very much a family day. The children in last years ISSC parade group brought a lot of fun to the event. The parade is very well organised and we expect to be finished marching by 12:30.
Regina GAA – Inaugural General Meeting
It is with great pleasure that the GAA in the City of Regina, can announce that they will be holding their Inaugural General Meeting on Tuesday March 5th at 8pm, in O’Hanlon’s Irish Bar.
This historic meeting will see the election of the club’s first Executive Committee, as well as the selection of a club name and colours.
Anyone with an interest in any aspect of the GAA are encouraged to attend, in what will surely be an important date for the Irish community in Regina, and Saskatchewan.
ISSC Vancouver would like to wish everyone involed with the GAA in Regina the best of luck with their Inaugural General Meeting. We hope to see them competing at a national level in the near future. We would encourage all members with family or friends in the region to make them aware of the meeting.
Toronto Hurling – 9-a side Tournament, 22nd June Centennial Park
Toronto Hurling Club, will be hosting their first ever Hurling Tournament on the weekend of June 22nd in Centennial Park.
Teams from Montreal and Ottawa will be attending alongside other teams from the United States, including teams from Milwaukee, the mid west region, Chicago and New York.
ISSC Vancouver & JP Ryans Hurling Vancouver, would like to wish our small ball counterparts the best of luck with the tournament and we are certain it will be a great success. Unfortunately, this year is clashes with our annual trip to Seattle, but we hope that we can make an appearance at the tournament in the coming seasons.
Are you a member of the ISSC or might you be considering joining the club?
Have you or someone you know have an interest and/or experience in coaching GAA teams?
The ISSC is inviting you to nominate someone (or yourself) for the following roles within the club in 2013:
– Men’s Football coach(s)
– Ladies Football coach(s)
– Hurling coach(s)
– Camogie coach
With the club growing in numbers in recent years we have more than one team in each code except for Camogie. With this in mind and given the heavy workload of coaching teams more than one coach per code is preferred. The club will be involved in a number of tournaments during the year with the highlights being the Western Canadian Championships in Edmonton (Aug 2-5) and the North American Championships in Cleveland (Aug 29-Sep 2).
Please reply with nominations no later than Friday March 8th to the following e-mail address: email@example.com
The club executive will review nominations and make appointments following discussions with interested parties in March.
The teams are picked for the 2013 ISSC Seven’s Gaelic Football Tournament & the games are set to get under way this Friday, February 15th. Throw-In is at 7pm in Capilano Rugby Grounds in North Vancouver. We would like all players to arrive for 6:30pm this Friday, as it is necessary for all players to register prior to taking part. The tournament will run over the next 5 Friday nights, ending on Friday, March 15th (St. Patricks Weekend).
The games will be 20 minutes each (10mins a half) and we will be trying to adhere to the following schedule as diligently as possible each week: –
7.00pm – Mens Game 1
7.25pm – Ladies Game 1
7.50pm – Mens Game 2
8.15pm – Ladies Game 2
8.40pm – Mens Game 3
We are encouraging all players and members to come along each night and watch all of the other games.
We will also require support each night in putting up the goals, refereeing & cheering on all the other teams.
The minimum registration fee of $40 for the sevens must be paid before you can participate.
As was the case last week, the bar in Capilano will be open for drinks, each night of the Sevens.
The list of teams, and schedule of games for the Men’s Tournament is available from Mens Football Rep Sean Donelan at firstname.lastname@example.org
The ladies teams will be finalized on Friday night and if you wish to participate be sure to contact Ladies Football Rep Nathalie Behan at email@example.com
Looking forward to seeing you all out in Capilano at 6:30pm on Friday night.
