Please come and support: Hi everyone, As some of you may know my good friend Keith O’Connor had a very serious accident in Whistler. It was the final weekend of the Olympic Games. Keith and I were snowboarding in Lakeside Bowl on Blackcomb Mountain. Keith hit some avalanche debris which was hidden under the snow and was ragdolled down the hill. He broke his back at the T4 level, completely severed his spinal cord, broke both his shoulder blades and perforated his lung with broken ribs. Keith was airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital where he underwent lengthy spinal surgery. At VGH, he was lucky to be examined and operated on by the prominent surgeon Dr. Marcel Dvorak. Tragically, due to the extent of his injuries, the Doctor was limited in what he could do, and Keith awoke to find he was paralysed from the chest down, a condition to which he is still coming to terms with at this time. On the 18th March 2010, when his lung was deemed to have recovered sufficiently to fly, Keith travelled from Vancouver to Ireland via Frankfurt. He spent about a week in the Mater Public Hospital in Dublin, Ireland before being transferred to the National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRC) in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland. His treatment in Vancouver and his flight home, were covered by his travel insurance. However, this has exhausted the available funds. In an effort to raise money for Keith’s rehab, equipment and home renovations, my friends and I are holding a “Fundraiser Night for Keith O’Connor” on Friday, April 23rd at Scribes RFC at 2205 Commercial Drive (upstairs in the Legion – use side door on 6th) from 7pm onwards. The Canucks game will be shown on a big screen tv and we are also running a poker tournament once the hockey finishes. Tickets are $20 (includes raffle ticket) and I shall have tickets with me all week at work if anyone would like to support our event. If you are unable to attend, but would like to donate you may do so with a credit card or paypal account via the following link: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=3EAS7FDQTY2UG I am also running my first Marathon in the BMO Vancouver Marathon on May 2nd next and am hoping to raise funds that way also. Thanking you in advance for kind support. Conor Kenny Hi All, Time to start mens football training as we had a bit of a break since the sevens tournament. Please find the details our first two training sessions below: Dates: Friday 23-Apr-10 Dates: Friday 30-Apr-10 Regards, Sat 5 June – Annual Seattle Tournament (Hurlers and ladies football only) Sat/Sun 26th/27th June – Vancouver Tournament: Capilano RFC Sat/Sun 31 July/1 August – Red Deer Tournament (Monday 2 August is a stat holiday) August (Date: TBC) – Annual Burlington tournament Sat/Sun September 4th/5th NACB Championships Chicago (Hurling only) Hi all, Well its that time of year again. Its time for the whistle. I know you guys have been missing it. We’ve had our fun with the 7’s tournament and now its time to get down to some serious training and hard work. The training schedule is outlined below: Tuesday April 6th – April 27th – Strathcona Oval – 6:30-8:30 pm Monday May 3rd – June 21st – Andy Livingstone – 6:00-7:00 pm Sat 5 June – annual Seattle tournament (hurlers and ladies football only) Sat/Sun 26th/27th June – Vancouver Tournament Sat/Sun 31 July/1 August – Red Deer Tournament (Monday 2 August is a stat holiday) August (weekend to be determined) – annual Burlington tournament (hurlers and ladies football only) Tuesday July 6th – August 31st – Strathcona Oval – 6:30-7:30 pm Essentially training switches between Strathcona and Andy Livingstone on Tuesdays and Monday nights respectively. The reason for this is that we wanted to provide you with the best quality pitches available and not be stuck with somewhere like McSpadden. As always please arrive in plenty of time. We are also looking at trying something new this year on Friday nights. We have booked Mercer Stadium astro-turf pitch in New Westminister (25 mins by Skytrain) from 7-8pm for 10 weeks starting April 9th. What we would like to do, depending on numbers and committment levels, is to split everyone into 3 teams and run of a mini league using this facility. The idea being that two teams play on a particular Friday while each team gets every 3rd friday off. However as I said, this all depends on numbers and committment. Registration for this mini-league will take place at training next tuesday the 6th in Strathcona and the cost is included in your club membership. If you cannot make training next tuesday but are iterested in playing on the friday nights please send me a text 778 997 9076. This is a great oppurtunity to expand and develop ladies football here in the lower mainland. To do so we need everyone’s help. Look forward to seeing you on the field. Ronan Matthews Hurling training begins Sunday April 11th at Strathcona Park at 11am. All welcome, both ladies and men. Hi all, The annual St Patrick’s Day game between the Vancouver Harps and the BC Cougars will take place on Sunday March 21st at 10.30am at Andy Livingstone Park. Hope to see you all there. Regards, Pat Lowney Smiley’s on 911 West Pender St will show all the games as follows: GAA NATIONAL LEAGUE GAMES ST. PATRICK’S DAY Regards, Pat Lowney |
