Men’s Gaelic Football has gone hand in hand with the ISSC since its formation back in 1974. Football has been very successful in Vancouver, and now boasts two football teams, Vancouver Harps and Vancouver Celts.
2011 was by far the most successful year Vancouver football has had. The Vancouver Harps were crowned both Western Canadian Senior Champions and the All American Intermediate Champions in 2011. This All American Intermediate crown was well deserved after a hard fought double overtime game against Young Irelanders of San Francisco. This was a fantastic achievement in our first year in the competition since 1985.
In 2012, Vancouver Harps battled gallantly in the North American Championship, losing to Shannon Blues of Boston in the semi final courtesy of an injury time point. The Harps defended their Western Canadian title on home soil.
In 2013, Vancouver Harps reached the North American Intermediate final, losing out to Philadelphia in the decider in Cleveland. The Harps were stopped in the semi final of the Western Canadian Championship, losing out to Fort Mc Murray.
In 2014, Vancouver Harps became North American Intermediate Champions again, this time beating a Philadelphia team to become champions. On the home front, the Harps lost to Edmonton by a point in a pulsating encounter in the Western Canadian Championship in Vancouver.
On Canadian soil, the successes have continued with WCD championship won by Vancouver in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010 2011 and 2012, as well as winning tournaments in Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary over the years.
Our numbers are stronger than ever and we hope to emulate our success again this year.
This year promises to be an exciting one on the playing field and we welcome players of all levels to come out and play.
